2019 Photo of the Week – 18

Baltimore Oriole

So the first week of May arrived and so did the Ruby Throated Hummingbird, The Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and this wonderful bird – the Baltimore Oriole. This handsome male is so vibrant. The contrast of the black and orange and a touch of white feathers is quite a sight.  Unfortunately for me, the Orioles don’t stick around much after the female is on the nest.  For now, they’re happy to feed on oranges and grape jelly but once they have eggs, they’re looking for more protein.  I have dried mealworms out and last year I tried live mealworms (yikes!) but neither seem to be what they’re looking for. If you have any other ideas, feel free to leave a comment.  I hope you enjoy my 2019 Photo of the Week – Week 18.
