2019 Photo of the Week – 19
This past week was probably the best week I’ve ever had for bird watching here at my house. My choice for Photo of the Week was rough because I had so many different birds this week and got some nice shots. But in the end, I selected this nice shot of one of my favorites: the Indigo Bunting. His royal blue is amazing! I started out having just the one male but then a couple days after he arrived, I started getting another male who appears to still be molting to his final grand blue color. I haven’t seen the female yet but last year, when I had a couple males, the female was here too so I’m still looking for her.
In addition to the Buntings, I had Orioles and Grosbeaks galore. I ended up putting out a 2nd Oriole feeder which helped attract even more. It was not uncommon to have 4-6 Orioles and 4-6 Grosbeaks here at the same time. I also had a Scarlet Tanager fly in ever so briefly in full red plumage with his black wings. But he flew off so quickly, I couldn’t get a photo. 🙁 On the plus side, I had 2 brand new sightings: a Gray Catbird and a Red-breasted Warbler. It has truly been an amazing spring for birds. I hope you enjoy my 2019 Photo of the Week – Week 18.
